ALPINE SECTION<\/span>
\nThe club caters primarily for adults. There are, however, some children who participate. Children’s participation is considered on a case-by-case basis. More info at the permanence, every Thursday from 18h to 19h30.<\/p>\n

\nPlease contact the leader of the outing, to know whether it’s possible depending on the level of difficulty.<\/div><\/div>\n

<\/span> I need equipment. Can I rent this at the club?<\/div>
No, the club does not rent or sell equipment. And you will need your gear before you join an outing, since many of the ski resorts do not have convenient rental shops. Information on places to rent equipment in Geneva is available at the permanence. Seasonal rentals are reasonably priced. <\/div><\/div>\n
<\/span> Can I sign up in advance? Can I book my spot by telephone?<\/div>

\nSign up is only\u00a0possible online from Monday to Thursday before 20h.<\/strong><\/p>\n

NORDIC AND SUMMER SECTIONS<\/span>
\nYou can sign up either at the permanence on Thursday evenings, by emailing or phoning the hike leader (except for group\u00a0Nordic skiing lessons, for which you need to sign up directly at the permanence).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

<\/span> Can I pay by credit card?<\/div>
\n

ALPINE SECTION<\/span>
\nYes, we accept Postcard, Visa and MasterCard. There is an extra fee, depending on the\u00a0card you pay with. We don\u2019t however accept American Express or Diners.<\/strong><\/p>\n

NORDIC AND SUMMER SECTIONS<\/span>
\nNo, credit cards are not accepted (advance payments for weekends can be paid to a bank account according to the instructions given by the outing\u00a0leader)<\/div><\/div>\n

<\/span> I\u2019ve never put on a pair of skis in my life! Can a beginner join the club?<\/div>
\n

ALPINE SECTION<\/span>
\nThe club outings are suited for skiers of all\u00a0levels, from first-time beginners to experts. Lessons for first-time beginners start in December and usually run through to the end of February. If you start early in the season, you will be a confident\u00a0skier before the season is over.<\/p>\n

NORDIC SECTION<\/span>
\nGroup\u00a0lessons for all levels are given from mid-December to mid-February. The lessons take place in La Vattay (usually 4 times per season)<\/div><\/div>\n

<\/span> Which resorts does the club visit?<\/div>
\n

ALPINE SECTION<\/span>
\nThe day trips usually visit ski resorts in the nearby French Alps such as Les Contamines, Flaine, Argenti\u00e8re\u00a0and Meg\u00e8ve\u00a0or Courmayeur in the Italian Alps.<\/p>\n

NORDIC SECTION<\/span>
\nFor day trips, we usually go to Nordic resorts in the nearby French Jura (Les Rousses, Pr\u00e9manon, etc.) or Swiss Jura (La Givrine, Le Marchairuz, etc.), sometimes to resorts\u00a0in Haute-Savoie (Praz-de-Lys, Les Saisies, etc.).<\/p>\n

SUMMER SECTION<\/span>
\nWe mostly hike in the Canton Vaud and Valais, as well as in nearby France (Jura and Alps).<\/div><\/div>\n

<\/span> How much does an outing cost?<\/div>
\n

ALPINE SECTION<\/span>
\nThe exact price depends on the destination. The coach transport costs CHF 35.-, a full-day lesson costs CHF 40.-, (for the Freeride classes CHF 50.-) and the ski lift ticket costs between CHF 30.- and 55.- So a day of skiing will cost about CHF 100.-
\nThe weekend trips cost at least CHF 450.- (and include transport, ski\u00a0pass, hotel, breakfast and dinner).<\/p>\n

NORDIC AND SUMMER SECTIONS<\/span>
\nTransport is organised\u00a0by private cars (carpooling) or by public transport. The costs depend on\u00a0the destination. By car the costs are usually between 15 and 30 CHF, to which is added the 5 CHF fee per day.<\/div><\/div>\n

<\/span> What does a day trip look like?<\/div>
\n

ALPINE SECTION<\/span>
\nOur service includes the travel to the ski resort and back by\u00a0coach, the ski lift ticket and an entire day lessons given by a ski instructor with a Swiss diploma. We start from Geneva, at the place des Nations,at 7:30 am, and\u00a0return\u00a0the same evening at around\u00a06:30 pm. The participants of a class generally eat lunch together in a restaurant. The price of the lunch is not included in the lesson price.<\/p>\n

NORDIC AND SUMMER SECTIONS<\/span>
\nThe meeting time and place are decided\u00a0by the leader of the outing depending on\u00a0the destination and the activity. For outings\u00a0in the Jura mountains, the meeting point\u00a0is usually at the rue de Varemb\u00e9, near the Place des Nations, where parking is available.<\/div><\/div>\n

<\/span> What language is spoken?<\/div>
Although lessons are provided in French, many instructors also speak English. The participants speak every language imaginable.<\/div><\/div>\n
<\/span> Can you tell me about weekend outings?<\/div>
The weekend outings venture a bit farther from Geneva usually to resorts in the Swiss and French Alps. The schedule is set at the beginning of each year and typically includes resorts such as Zermatt, Wengen, Zinal and Crans-Montana in Switzerland, and Val d\u2019Isere and Les Deux Alpes in France. The weekend outings usually\u00a0leave Geneva on a Friday evening and return on Sunday evening. There are no lessons given on the weekend outings. The weekend outings can sometimes take on a festive atmosphere.<\/p>\n

NORDIC AND SUMMER SECTIONS<\/span>
\nFor the weekends, we usually venture a bit farther away, for example to\u00a0Valais or Savoie<\/div><\/div>\n

<\/span> Do you do anything other than skiing? How about snowboarding?<\/div>
During the ski\u00a0season, the club also organises snowboarding lessons,\u00a0cross-country and snowshoeing outings, off-piste helicopter skiing, ski touring and nighttime ski and sledge outings. From Easter to October, the club also organises hikes, mostly in the mountains, and kayaking.
\nA few social events are also organised.\u00a0<\/div><\/div>\n
<\/span> I am already an experienced skier. I do not need lessons. What\u2019s in it for me?<\/div>

ALPINE SECTION<\/span>
\nJoin the class 6 or the Free Ride class where you can do moguls,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>ski down through steep gulleys<\/span>\u00a0join us at heli-skiing, float through waist-deep powder and perfect your high-speed ski technique.<\/span>
\nIf you are already an expert skier and would like to become a Swiss-certified instructor, you can receive your instruction through the Club. If you are already certified and would like to teach, please let us know. Ask for Raffaele at the permanence on Thursday evenings.<\/p>\n

NORDIC SECTION<\/span>
\nThe Nordic skiing outings are usually\u00a0for experienced Nordic skiers. We organize group\u00a0beginners’ lessons\u00a0and after a few lessons you can join the \u201ceasy\u201d outings.
\n<\/div><\/div>\n

<\/span> What happens if the weather is bad? Are outings ever cancelled?<\/div>
\n

ALPINE SECTION<\/span>
\nIn case of a really bad weather forecast for the outing and closing of the ski resort, the organizers will cancel the outing on Thursday evening. If this happens, you will receive an email from the organizer (you have to be on the mailing list). If the outing is cancelled, participants will be fully reimbursed.<\/p>\n

NORDIC SECTION<\/span>
\nThe leader will give instructions at the latest on the morning of the outing. If there is not enough snow for skiing or snowshoeing, the leader may decide to change the destination, or to organise a hike instead.<\/p>\n

SUMMER SECTION<\/span>
\nThe leader will make sure to inform the participants whether a hike is taking place or is cancelled, this is usually done via email or telephone the day before the hike.<\/div><\/div>\n

<\/span> What is the refund policy?<\/div>
\n

ALPINE SECTION<\/span>
\nIf an outing is held and you do not show up there will be no refund.<\/strong> You must understand that if you do not turn up, the club has already incurred expenses on the basis of your inscription (transport, teachers…) which must be paid for.<\/p>\n

NORDIC AND SUMMER SECTIONS<\/span>
\nOf the sum that you paid when you registered, we will neither refund the club tax nor any other costs that we had due to your registration. For non-members, the surcharge is refunded.
\n<\/div><\/div>\n

<\/span>Is ski training available during the summer season?<\/div>
There is sometimes a ski outing during July or August. It goes to a very high resort, such as Tignes, where glacier skiing is available. More info at the permanence.<\/div><\/div>\n
<\/span> Can I sign up on the morning of the outing?<\/div>
\n
ALPINE SECTION<\/span>
\nTo register on the day of the outing, you should plan to arrive at the coach at the Place des Nations at 07:00am. Ask to see Raffaele, who is the director of the alpine section of the club. If there is a free seat on the bus, and there is a free spot in the appropriate lesson, he will accept your registration.<\/span>

\nYou will then have to pay cash on the spot for the coach transport costs CHF 35.-, a full-day lesson CHF 40.-, (for the Freeride classes CHF 50.-) and the ski lift ticket which costs between CHF 30 & 55.- . You will also have to pay an extra fee of CHF 10.- for last-minute registration. If you are not a member you will have to pay an extra CHF 20.- per adult or CHF 10.- per child. Please bring small bills.<\/span>

<\/span> Where can I find more information about the Ski Club?<\/div>
Information and registration are available at the \u201cpermanence\u201d (weekly meeting) of the club, which is held every Thursday from 18:00 to 19:30 at the restaurant of the Varemb\u00e9 swimming pool \u2013 Avenue Giuseppe-Motta 46 \u2013 1202 Gen\u00e8ve. It is just a short walk from the Place des Nations (tram 15 and buses 5, 8, 11, 22, 28, F, V) see the\u00a0<\/b>map <\/a>. If you drop by, you will find an information desk with people who can answer your questions, in both English and French.<\/div><\/div>\n
<\/span> I am in Geneva only for one month. Do I have to become a member?<\/div>
\n

\nNo you don’t need to become a member. Non-members can participate in SCIG outings by paying an additional fee of CHF 20.-\u00a0per outing for adults and CHF 10.- for children.<\/p>\n
